AWAITING TREATMENT? WHAT TO DO IN THE MEANTIME

If you've been diagnosed but haven't started treatment, or you're still waiting for that first appointment, I know how hard this in-between stretch is. I've been there. The waiting can feel endless, but there's more you can do with this time than you might think.

Take care of yourself now. Many people start with diet changes. Avoiding gluten, dairy, and sugar to start was a big one for me, because what you eat matters more than people realize. You can also support your immune system with gentle, foundational steps, ease into detox support at a pace your body can handle, and work on pain and inflammation where you can.

Go slowly, and ask your doctor before adding anything.

Learn what's ahead. Walking into treatment informed, not overwhelmed, makes everything easier. Start with Newly Diagnosed Chronic Lyme and Rise and Recover, a guide to avoiding common mistakes in treatment.

Get ready for your appointment. Time is limited, so list your most troubling and debilitating symptoms first. You can always send the rest afterward, and your doctor can review it after the visit. Our symptom checklist can help you organize them. Write your questions ahead of time about food, medicine and side effects, pain, sleep, and self-care. A short letter to your doctor can help too.

Speak up for yourself. If your doctor isn't Lyme-literate, walking in with good information and confidence changes the appointment. Bring printed letters and documentation, and remember you're always allowed to fire a doctor who isn't working for you. For more, read Preparing for Your Lyme Doctor Appointment and Tips on How to Deal With Conventional Doctors.

Solutions are only found by those who say "I'll try." Keep advocating for yourself. You deserve real answers, not dismissal.

This information is based on my personal experience and group polls. Always check with your doctor before adding anything.
