Here are a few resources to help you stand up for yourself when a doctor is dismissive. Each letter is ready to copy and paste into an email or your patient portal, or to print and bring to your appointment.

There is a quick-view graphic with the key points at the bottom of this post.

DOCTOR LETTER

For any doctor. It shares the newest Lyme science, what the government now recognizes and why dismissing Lyme can be dangerous.

CARDIOLOGIST LETTER

For your heart doctor. It explains how Lyme and its co-infections can affect the heart, and asks that your heart be checked carefully.

GASTROENTEROLOGIST

For your gut doctor, with information on how Lyme can affect the gut.

EDUCATIONAL PAPERS TO SHARE WITH YOUR DOCTOR

Center for Lyme Action - The State of Lyme Disease Research in the United States (July 2023). It explains where Lyme testing, treatment and research fall short, and why more research funding is needed.

Healthcare (2022) - Neurological Pain, Psychological Symptoms, and Diagnostic Struggles among Patients with Tick-Borne Diseases. Researchers from Boston University, George Mason University and the University of Texas at Dallas found that patients often report symptoms like anxiety, depression, panic attacks and pain, and called for clearer recognition of the wide range of symptoms.
