This prescription is not as well known but I did use it in my treatment against Babesia, as did my daughter.
"Alinia (nitazoxanide) is a prescription medication designed and approved to treat various kinds of intestinal parasites. Some physicians who treat Lyme use it for additional reasons. In this article, I review Alinia based on research and my clinical experience."
"Other medications that I use less frequently include amoxicillin and Alinia (nitazoxanide)."
"Nitazoxanide (Alinia) is a newer medication in the parasite community and in the United States, it is approved for diarrhea caused by Giardia and Cryptosporidium parvum in children. The French report effective use against Fasciola which is a human parasitic disease.40 Dupouy-Camet41 usefully makes this statement about the uniqueness of nitazoxanide: " a well-tolerated anti-parasitic agent with a broad spectrum because it is active on many intestinal protozoa and helminths. It acts in the same metabolic way as the 5-nitro-imidazoles inhibition of the ferredoxine reductase) but without synthesis of free radicals and DNA deterioration of the target cell. It is thus neither teratogenic nor mutagenic." However, this drug does exit the intestinal track and has other actions that we believe include effective Babesia killing in some individuals and with some strains."
"This drug has a completely different mechanism of action from antibiotics that disrupts microbes metabolisms which effectively kills them. While the drug has only been approved by the FDA for its antiprotozoal properties, it is a powerful broad spectrum antimicrobial (it even has anti-cancer properties, and anti-viral properties). That’s right, this single drug kills bacteria, parasites, viruses, and cancer and has a lower side effect profile than some antibiotics."
ALINIA cost savings. I used to pay 300 a month and that was considered a deal.
