This is one of many things I have used against Babesia. I used for quite some time in combination with other things. Zithro, Alinia and natural stuff in particular.
I was told to be watchful for any deep depression hitting and that I may not be aware when it happens so I informed 2 family members so they could help me identify. It did finally hit but not for 9 months. I was then instructed to stop it and add in Sunny Moods and CoQ10. That passed quickly. I was told you can not take CoQ10 while taking it though.
I personally experienced lots of nausea.
"Be sure to take atovaquone with fat because this increases its absorption. Take enough fat so the medicine does not cause nausea or diarrhea. Sources of fat include nuts, nut butter, butter, oils (like coconut oil or flaxseed oil), yogurt, cheeses, and avocado."
"Treatment with Mepron and Zithromax has been effective for Babesia."
"For the treatment of babesiosis, a regimen of atovaquone and azithromycin is as effective as a regimen of clindamycin and quinine and is associated with fewer adverse reactions."
"Interestingly, the combination of atovaquone and proguanil may act in synergy to uncouple selectively the parasite mitochondria by reducing the electropotential across the inner mitochondrial membrane of the protozoa."
"More commonly, doctors use anti-malarial drugs such as Mepron, Malarone, or Coartem to treat babesiosis, often pulsing these treatments over weeks or even months as the patient’s Babesia load decreases. Still others supplement these medications with homeopathic remedies such as artemisinin or cryptolepsis."
"The current arsenal for the treatment of human babesiosis is limited and consists of combinations of atovaquone and azithromycin or clindamycin and quinine. These combination therapies were not designed based on biological criteria unique to Babesia parasites, but were rather repurposed based on their well-established efficacy against other apicomplexan parasites."
"Additionally, the administration of multiple consecutive doses is a risk factor for the emergence and spread of drug-resistant parasites, which could limit the useful lifetime of these drugs, as is the case with atovaquone"
Alinia is another one I used for Babesia.
