CALMING THE NERVOUS SYSTEM - MY ADVICE

I do somatic therapy every week, as it's covered by my insurance. I wanted to share this tip because it really helped me. Before I took a trip, I was super nervous because I had not traveled for about 10 years and I was super concerned about how my body would handle it. I didn't want to slow anyone down or ruin one moment of my family's time.
I admit I tend to be more of a hyper person, and my nervous system can get wound up very easily. Part of this is just my personality and the other is from the effects of Lyme and how it effects the autonomic nervous system. Not to mention trauma from the disease. I can still get this way, so somatic therapy has helped me.
My therapist gave me some simple advice before the trip. Seems like simple advice, but it has been HUGE for me.
She said GO SLOW, move slower, talk slower, be in a slow-motion kind of feeling (I even visualize a sloth). I did it the whole trip, on Christmas and busy holidays, and even now. I'm not perfect and forget sometimes. Do things take longer? Yes, BUT it's totally worth it.
No one even noticed my slow approach, maybe because this is how most people live and I'm just adjusting!
When I talk, I focus on slowing down even if I have a lot to say. It is amazing to realize how much it contributed to how revved up my nervous system was. How rushed I always felt and how fast I tried to do things, I was feeding my body that fast pace. Now I feel more in control and calm.
Try it and let me know if it helps you! It has been a WOW growth moment for me.
