"Dr. Klinghardt states this regarding KPU treatment :

“If KPU is treated first and the system is restored to normal levels (4-8 months), Borrelia, Bartonella-like organisms and Babesia respond to much milder interventions without significant Herxes or problems”

"KPU, also known as HPU, (Haemopyrroluria), is a condition where pyrrole, a key component of haem, (the red pigment in blood) is overproduced in the liver and bone marrow. Normally excess pyrrole is excreted in bile pigments via the stool. However, if there is an unusually high buildup of pyrrole, it is excreted via the urine."

"KPU is a frequent co-factor in patients with: 1) heavy metal toxicity (detox pathways are overwhelmed and ineffective, lack of glutathione);

2) Lyme disease (microbes induce KPU enzymes to deplete white cells of zinc and weaken their fighting abilities);

3) Many -if not most neurological illnesses (common in MS, Parkinson, Depression, Autism)."

"More and more, recently, it has been claimed that HPU is merely a new name for KPU. In this way, some laboratories claim that KPU tests and HPU tests are interchangeable, which is untrue. This claim is misleading and may result in some customers carrying out a test that which they do not need."

"In looking for possible explanations as to why some patients struggle more than others to regain their health, Dr. Klinghardt has found a high correlation between patients with chronic Lyme disease and those with Kryptopyrroluria (KPU), or more precisely Hemopyrrollactamuria (HPU). The condition is alternatively known as the "Mauve Factor" or "Malvaria". "
