What crosses the blood brain barrier comes up now and then so posting information we have.
Does oral doxycycline cross the blood-brain barrier?
It does, but not as well as the IV ceftriaxone. Minocycline, which is similar in many ways to doxycycline, also has good penetration across the blood-brain barrier, but again, not as good as the IV ceftriaxone.
Note: Cefriaxone sold under the brand name Rocephin
Minocycline is even more highly lipid soluble than doxycycline and has excellent CSF penetration making it potentially useful in treating Lyme neuroborreliosis.
Warning if taking Rocephin
