IVIG (Intravenous Immune Globulin)

Updated: Sep 18

IVIG is a product made from the serum of between 1,000 and 20,000 donors per dose.)

Note: we have never done this, just information sharing.

This therapy can help people with weakened immune systems or other diseases fight off infections.

It is however, not for treating infections.

Again, this is a treatment for the immune system.

A diagnosis of chronic Lyme disease does not qualify a person for IVIG. Lyme patients get IVIG when they are low on IgG immune subclasses on special blood testing, or develop some autoimmune condition such as MS due to the lyme infection. A low CD57 does not qualify you for IVIG.

IVIG costs approximately $30,000 a month and treatment is generally for a minimum of one year. Insurance covers this expensive treatment if a patient has one of the following conditions diagnosed:

Immune deficiencies (like immune thrombocytopenia

Kawasaki disease

Guillain-Barre

CIDP – Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy

Lupus

Myositis

MS

Myasthenia Gravis

We recently heard this but have no info:

"For IVIG. Gamunex is paying first $8k or $10k of medication. Our family applied to Gamunex and was quickly granted this coupon, saving us thousands of dollars."
