BIOCIDIN

Biocidin comes up often in the Lyme groups as a broad-spectrum herbal blend that may help with biofilms. Here's what's in it, what the research shows, and the forms available.

WHAT IT IS
-Biocidin is a blend of 18 herbal extracts and essential oils, including goldenseal, garlic, black walnut, noni, echinacea, milk thistle, white willow bark, grape seed, shiitake mushroom, and oregano, tea tree and lavender oils.
-It comes in four forms: the LSF liposomal liquid (the one mentioned most), capsules, liquid drops and a throat spray. The capsules can be an option for people who are sensitive to liquids.
-G.I. Detox+ is the same company's binder, and it's often mentioned alongside Biocidin in the groups.
WHAT THE RESEARCH SHOWS
-In a 2018 lab study at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland, the Biocidin liquid and LSF killed Lyme bacteria in all three of their forms (the spiral form, round bodies and biofilm form). At the strongest strength tested, none of the forms grew back for 3 weeks. This was done in the lab and hasn't been tested in people with Lyme.
-A 2026 lab study found Biocidin broke down biofilms of several common bacteria and Candida. The researchers noted that the strengths needed may be higher than the body can reach inside the gut and organs.
-A small 2024 study in people with SIBO (16 people enrolled, no comparison group) found some had negative breath tests after 10 weeks of Biocidin liquid plus G.I. Detox+.
-All three of these studies were funded by the company that makes Biocidin.
-As of 2026, I couldn't find any studies of Biocidin against Bartonella or Babesia.
HOW LYME LITERATE DOCTORS USE IT
-Dr. Richard Horowitz lists Biocidin among his biofilm agents in his Bartonella treatment, at 2 sprays twice a day, working up to that dose.
-Dr. Jill Carnahan has said she always adds Biocidin to her Lyme protocols.
-Every Lyme doctor has their own approach. Talk with your doctor before adding it.
MY EXPERIENCE
-I used Biocidin many years ago, though not as long as other things in my protocol.
BEFORE YOU START
-Every form contains alcohol and walnut.
-The labels say not to use it during pregnancy. Check with your doctor if you're nursing or take any medicines.
-Goldenseal, one of its herbs, may change the way your body processes many medicines.
-White willow bark is related to aspirin. Willow bark shouldn't be given to children or used by people allergic to aspirin, and it may raise bleeding risk with blood thinners. Talk with your doctor first.
-The labels for the LSF, capsules and liquid drops suggest starting with a small amount and working up slowly.
